CONCUSSIONS

A concussion is a traumatic brain injury caused by a direct or indirect blow or a jolt to the head, face, jaw, neck, or upper body.  A concussion can change the way your brain functions.  Just because you hit your head does not mean you have suffered a concussion, in fact even if you have a headache after hitting your head does not automatically mean you have a concussion.

The effects of most concussions are usually temporary, symptoms can include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Visual changes
  • Balance difficulties
  • Motion sensitivity
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Poor concentration

Other symptoms may include:

  • Memory changes
  • Confusion
  • Mood changes
  • Slurred speech

Every injury is different and every person can have different symptoms or severity of symptoms after a concussion.
